This had to be a very special cake for a very special Nan, who would be celebrating her 100th birthday. I was left with free rein to come up with my own idea and flavours, as long as I made one cake lemon, Nan's favourite. I ended up making the lemon, a chocolate cake and vanilla.
I know she loves flowers, so I put my skills to making two posies of flowers in her favourite colours. They were small and fiddly, over 130 flowers per posy, which took me a whole week of leave to complete, then more time for the cakes.
I had a photo of Nan in her late teens or early twenties, so I had that printed on edible icing and made a frame from fondant.
I have to say I was so proud of what I achieved, and the main part of this story is that Nan and all her guests loved it too.
